LEWISTON – YWCA of Central Maine will offer American Red Cross lifeguarding, American Red Cross waterfront lifeguarding and American Red Cross water safety instructor courses. The courses are available to YWCA members, community members and businesses.
The lifeguarding course teaches participants the skills and knowledge needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. The course content and activities prepare participants to recognize and respond quickly and effectively to emergencies and prevent drownings and injuries. Participants must be age 15 on or before the final scheduled class.
The YWCA will offer four sessions of the lifeguarding course. All participants must pass a prerequisite skills test at the beginning of the course. The cost is $200 for YWCA members and $225 for nonmembers.
Session I will be held from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. April 21 and 28 and May 5; Session II, 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, April 24 to May 31; Session III, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. April 29, May 6 and 20; Session IV, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 6 to 9.
The waterfront lifeguarding course teaches participants the skills and knowledge needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies in a pool and at a waterfront environment. The course content and activities prepare participants to recognize and respond quickly and effectively to emergencies and prevent drownings and injuries.
Participants must be age 15 on or before the final scheduled class. All participants must pass a prerequisite skills test at the beginning of the course. The price is $225 for YWCA members and $250 for nonmembers. The class will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. June 18 to 21.
The water safety instructor course trains instructor candidates to teach water safety, including the basic water rescue course, six levels of Learn to Swim, and parent and child aquatics. Participants must be age 16 at the start of the course and must have a current Fundamentals of Instructor Training certificate.
The YWCA will offer two sessions of the course. Participants must pass a prerequisite skills and written test at the beginning of the course. The price is $225 for YWCA members and $250 for nonmembers. Session I will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 1, 3, 4 and 5; Session II, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. June 12 to 15.
