Women to meet

MEXICO – Women in the Outdoors will hold a monthly meeting from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 8, at Meroby Elementary School. There will be discussion to plan upcoming events and programs. Telling stories

NORWAY – The Children’s Department at Norway Memorial Library will explore the tradition of Chinese storytelling in a program from 3:15 to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, March 8.

Children will listen to several Chinese folktales and create their own painted story scroll. The program is for children in grades three through six and is part of a series of programs on the history and culture of China offered by Oxford Hills libraries in March for One Book One Community: Oxford Hills Reads.

Space is limited; parents must preregister by visiting the library or calling 743-5308 by Wednesday, March 7. The Norway Memorial Library is at 258 Main St.

Benefit dance

NORWAY – A benefit potluck and dance will be held for Paul “Fudgie” Sheehan Friday, March 9, at Charlie’s Entertainment Center, Main Street. The supper will begin at 6 p.m. with entertainment to follow at 9:30 p.m. Live entertainment will feature Trailer Trash and Friends, Terry Swett and Al Mallory. Cost is $10 a person for both or $5 after 9:30 p.m. Fudgie is currently undergoing treatment for heart failure and will need a heart transplant. All proceeds will go toward his transplant and ongoing therapy.

Day of prayer

SUMNER – The Congregational Church of East Sumner will host World Day of Prayer at 1 p.m. Friday, March 9, with the Buckfield Community Church providing the program. Refreshments will follow. It was postponed from March 1.

Men’s supper

PARIS – The Men’s Club of the First Congregational Church, 17 East Main St., Paris, invites the public to attend a roast pork supper from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, March 9, in the vestry of the church. Proceeds will be used for the church fuel fund. For more information, call the church office at 743-2437. Tickets will be sold at the door.

Book discussion

PARIS – The Paris Public Library will host a discussion of “Yeh Yeh’s House” by Evelina Chao at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 13. The memoir, this year’s choice of “Oxford Hill Reads,” chronicles Chao’s discovery of her heritage when she and her mother visit relatives in China. The book discussion will be led by Pam Chodosh. Spring sign-ups

PARIS – The Paris Department of Parks and Recreation is gearing up for the baseball, softball and tee-ball program. Sign-ups will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 18, and Thursday, March 22, at the Paris Town Office, 33 Market Square.

Tee-ball begins with those who are 5 and/or those who have attended kindergarten. Baseball play continues through those who are age 15 as of May 15. Softball continues through those who were age 18 as of Jan. 1.

It is for Paris residents only. Registration is $25 ($40 for Babe Ruth players ages 13 to 15), with discounts offered to families with multiple participants. Late registrations will not be accepted. Everyone will make a team.

NORWAY – Norway baseball, softball and tee-ball registration dates are from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 15, and from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 17, at the town office.

Donates items

WOODSTOCK – Curator Larry Billings has donated genealogy items to the Woodstock Historical Society. He gave a coat of arms of a family named Johnston and a book he compiled of his own family tree. Billings said most of his information was derived from the genealogical research of his mother, Mary.

Indoor yard sale

OXFORD – An indoor yard sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, March 17 and 18, at His Place Teen Center, 254 Webber Brook Road.

There will be a variety of items, including household furniture, appliances, clothes, books and toys.

The center will hold an open house with free coffee and doughnuts. The snack bar will also be open. Staff will offer tours, and tables and items will be displayed in the game room, multi-purpose room and front porch area.

The center is accepting items for the sale, especially furniture and household and general merchandise. Call Bert Rugg at 743-9503 or 515-3000. Proceeds will benefit His Place.
