On Monday November 17, the students of Monmouth Middle School, with their warm hats and gloves, grabbed their rakes and headed out among the town for Community Service Day. The group started raking and picking up yards early in the morning and worked through 1:30 p.m. Around noon, the helpful groups took a short break to enjoy the first light snow that started to fall. By 1 p.m. the snow had stopped and the yards of this small community were free of the brown dead leaves of fall. Collected were at least 200 bags of leaves. The homeowners greatly appreciated the work and some even showed their graditude with cookies and drink. Returning to school after a full and tiresome day of helping the community, the students were cold and hungry. Homerooms offered cider, apples, and doughnuts for the hungry bunch. The students and staff felt that this was a productive and rewarding day.
