It was the first game of the year for the Tripp Tigers varsity field hockey team. We had to put our game faces on and get ready for the tough Lewiston team. We went through two weeks of practices, meeting new girls, and clumping together to make the Tripp Tigers field hockey team a strong field hockey team. We arrived at Lewiston Middle school field full of excitement and nervous feelings. We all stepped out the bus and ran over to our benches. After stretching and preparing for the game, it was now time to use what we’ve been practicing and training for.

“Goalies ready?” The referee questioned the goalies.

Both goalies waved and we all knew what that meant game time; it was what we’ve all been waiting for. The ref dropped the shimmering white ball in the middle of the field. The other team took the free hit speeding down the field. Our strong middies stopped it and drove it up to us, the forwards.

It was a back and forth first half. Our goalie, Michelle Morin, kept everything out that came her way. We had breakaways with our forwards sprinting down the field and dribbling by the defense. But we got a goal the very first goal of the season scored by Brianna DeGone. She took the ball out of the goal net and sprinted back to the middle of the field with the crowd cheering her on. We realized that we could do this. It happened again. Cheryl Fichter dribbled down from the other end with all of us putting an effort in to help shot on goal. But right at the end of the first half, Holly Gallup poked the ball into the goal. The first half ended with a score of 3-0. Our coach, Sue Parlin, was so proud of us, but we still had to battle it out the rest of the second half. And we did. We went out there like we were professionals. We just passed and everything ran together smoothly. The final score turned out to 5-0 with Tripp winning. Brianna DeGone, Holly Gallup and Cheryl Fichter scored for us! With Holly Gallup, Cheryl Fichter, and me, Meagan Dow, assisting! Our defense also had an amazing game!

So currently the Tripp Tigers varsity team is 4-0! I know we can go all the way! Let’s go Tripp Tigers Field Hockey.
