LEWISTON – The Central Maine General Hospital/Central Maine Medical Center School of Nursing Alumni Association has, for several years, honored the memory of registered nurse Elsie Murchison Lauten for her years of devotion to the association.

Annually, a senior student who “displays a unique gift of compassion in care of the geriatric patient” is selected by the faculty of the CMMC School of Nursing and awarded a scholarship by the alumni association.

This year’s award winner is Sally Carter Tardiff of East Waterford.

Geriatrics was Lauten’s special concern during her nursing career, which began in 1940. She was active in the association and was the inspiration for the newsletter that is currently mailed to 950 members.
