Talent show

STARKS – The West Mills Community Church and Starks Presbyterian Churches will hold a “Variety of Gifts (and Talents) Show” from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, April 8, to benefit Camp at the Eastward, Sawyer’s Mills Road, formerly West Mills Road.

There will be musical performances, skits, poems, dances, drama, solos and the arts. It is an evening for all ages, with dessert pies and ice cream served.

Society speaker

FARMINGTON – The Farmington Historical Society will meet on Monday, April 10, at the Henderson Memorial Baptist Church on Academy Street. There will be a potluck supper at 6 p.m. followed by a business meeting and program at 7.

Ethan Bogar will speak about the history of aqueducts in Farmington. Guests and new members are welcome.

Hunter course

SALEM – SAD 58 Adult and Community Education will offer a hunter safety course beginning Monday, April 24, at Mt. Abram High School. The course will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. again on April 26, May 1 and 3.

Participants will gain certification upon successful completion. Students must be present for each class. Cost is $10 a person in advance and students ages 10 to 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Maximum number of students who can enroll is 40. Space will be granted on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Event rescheduled

FARMINGTON – The University of Maine at Farmington’s “On Our Minds, War in Words” documentary, “Voices in Wartime,” originally scheduled to be shown on April 3, has been rescheduled to be shown at 7:30 p.m. on April 12 and 24 in Thomas Auditorium, Preble/Ricker Hall.

The follow-up poetry reading and discussion group, “Poets on War,” has been rescheduled for 7:30 p.m. April 26, in the North Dining Hall, Olsen Student Center, sponsored by the UMF PRISM Committee.

“Voices in Wartime” is a feature-length documentary that shows the experience of war through images and the words of poets. In “Voices in Wartime,” poets around the world, from the U.S., Colombia, Britain, Nigeria, Iraq and India, share their views and experiences of war that extend beyond national borders.

Funds for SAVES

FARMINGTON – In recognition of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, End Of The Rainbow and Sexual Assault Victims’ Emergency Services are teaming up for a fundraiser. Each Wednesday in April from 2 to 4 p.m., End Of The Rainbow will donate to SAVES 50 percent of reflexology treatment profits.

SAVES provides crisis intervention services to victims of sexual assault and works with law enforcement and the court system on behalf of the victims. SAVES also provides school-based and community education programs to increase awareness about prevention of sexual violence.
