AUGUSTA – The Maine Arts Commission is calling Maine artists only to submit proposals to design, execute and install artwork at the Auburn new elementary school Percent for Art site. Approximately $45,000 is available to commission one or more pieces of art for the site.

The new school will house 330 students, including 75 English language learners speaking seven languages from 11 cultures. The new school will include students in grades kindergarten through six living in the Lake Street district as well as other system level programs.

Maine’s Percent for Art law reserves 1 percent of the construction funds for all state-funded building projects to provide artwork for the public areas of the buildings.

For a prospectus outlining potential sites at the school and guidelines for consideration, e-mail Sage Lewis, Percent for Art contractor, at Publicartsage@aol.com or send a self-addressed, stamped envelope to Percent for Art Competition, Maine Arts Commission, 193 State St., 25 State House Station, Augusta, ME 04333.
