LEWISTON – Every year in conjunction with the feast day of St. Marguerite d’Youville, the Sisters of Charity Health System celebrates Mission Week. For the system, it is a time to reflect on how St. Marguerite’s achievements inspire its activities in the community.

It is also a week of fun at each of the system’s organizations: St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center, St. Marguerite d’Youville Pavilion and Community Clinical Services. Fund-raisers, safety fairs, awards and a special Mass are the highlights of an activity filled week.

In a letter written to all employees to mark the occasion, Sister Diane Beaudoin, superior general of the founding Sisters of Charity of St. Hyacinthe, Quebec, expressed the gratitude of the sisters for the way “you carry on the mission of Catholic healthcare” in the greater Lewiston/Auburn area.

She said employees “are not simply preserving a tradition, but more importantly are seeking to integrate values of care and concern for persons in our society and our world. That vision (of care) is very much present among you and we, the Sisters of Ste Hyacinthe, give thanks to God everyday for each of you. It is a consolation for us that the work begun so long ago, is in good hands. Know that we support you always with our prayer.”

Tuesday, Oct. 11: Mass in honor of St. Marguerite d’Youville at 7 p.m. in the Maison Marcotte / d’Youville Pavilion Chapel, followed by presentation of the 2005 Marguerite d’Youville Awards for respect, excellence, compassion and stewardship. The community is invited.

Friday, Oct. 14: Silent auction and raffle from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Lepage Conference Center, 99 Campus Ave. There is artwork, antiques, furniture and custom baskets. The event raises about $30,000 for mission-related activities. The community is welcome.

Friday, Oct. 14: Quality and Safety Fair from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the ground floor of 97 Campus Ave. In conjunction with the health system’s celebration of Mission Week and reflective of the commitment to excellence, teams of employees and physicians representing all entities of the system will display projects addressing quality and patient safety initiatives.

A team of judges representing the board members, medical staff and employees will judge the exhibits.
