RANGELEY – With 160 points, James Carignan of Rangeley claimed the best overall award at the Rangeley Lakes Region Logging Museum’s 25th anniversary Logging Festival Woodsmen’s Competition on July 30 at the museum field.

A contestant in each of the competitions since they began in 1981, Carignan took home a chain saw. This was his first time as best overall competitor.

Second was Jim Burak of Topsham, with 150 points. He won a beaver chain saw carving by Rodney Richard Jr. of Pownal. Tied for third were Matt Galambos of Chelmsford, Mass., with 130 points, and Jim Burdin of Cambridge. Both won an owl chain saw carving by Richard Jr.

Winners of individual events that counted for the best overall award were as follows:

Stock chain saw: first, James Carignan, 19:37 seconds; second, Richard Dudley, 19:86; third, Kyle Dudley, 19:95.

Crosscut saw: Jim Burak and Matt Galambos, 26:54 seconds; Jim Burdin and Joel Burdin, 28:47; James Carignan and Josh Haley.

Pulp piling: Josh Haley, 1:03:96 minutes; Jim Burak, 1:04:20 (pile off 15:18); Chris LaPage, 1:04:20 (pile off 18:96).

Dot split: Kent LaPage, 275 points; Jim Burdin, 275; Kyle Dudley, 225.

Pulp toss: Matt Galambos, 49 feet; Robert Bernier, 36 ft 7.5 inches; James Carignan, 35 ft 10.5.

Axe toss: Jim Burak, 5 pts.; Jim Burdin, 5; James Carignan, 2.

Top three winners of events that did not count toward the best overall award were as follows:

Stock appearing chain saw: James Carignan, Josh Haley, Richard Dudley.

Modified chain saw: Kyle Dudley, 10:01 seconds; James Carignan, 10:07; Richard Dudley, 10:45.
