GREENE – Mike Shiley, filmmaker, adventurer and world traveler, will present his latest film, “Amazing Thailand,” at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, and 2 and 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 22, at the Sawyer Memorial, 371 Sawyer Road. Admission is free; doors open one hour before the show.

Named “Amazing Thailand,” the travel film takes the audience into the jungle aboard a bamboo raft, show a glimpse of the indigenous hill tribe villages in northern Thailand and will explore uninhabited tropical beaches by kayak.

The film also highlights the many different art forms, golden Buddhist temples and a boat cruise through the hidden canals of Bangkok.

“Thailand has something to offer people of all ages and desires, from delicious food to riding elephants on multi-day back country treks,” said the Portland, Ore., based filmmaker, Shiley.

“Thailand is my favorite country in the world because the Thai people are so friendly and peaceful, the food is outstanding and country is very safe,” he said. A highlight for history buffs is the profile on Ayutthaya, the ancient capital of Siam that was sacked in 1767 by Burmese invaders.

Shiley is no stranger to adventure travel, having completed a 3,000-mile solo bicycle journey from Canada to Cabo San Lucas in 1993. Earlier that year he worked as a scuba dive guide in the Red Sea in Egypt. In 1999 he trekked to the base camp of Mt. Everest in Nepal and has visited Thailand seven times.

He has traveled to more than 35 countries and made film documentaries on Thailand, Cambodia, Nepal, Hawaii and Japan.
