LEWISTON – The University of Southern Maine’s Lewiston-Auburn College will host an information session on April 6 for the Master of Arts in Leadership Studies program.
The innovative program, which began last fall, provides opportunities for organizational and community leaders to build an understanding of the dynamics of leadership, how leadership interacts with other human dynamics and the role of the leader in society.
The mission of the program is to develop professionals who understand the nature of human relationships, appreciate the impact individuals can have on society, exercise effective, ethical leadership in organizations and communities in the context of globalization.
“The program is designed around a set of compelling outcomes: leadership, knowledge, skills and orientation,” said Dr. Marv Druker, associate professor. “Students study leadership through the humanities and social sciences, as well as by examination of leadership research and theory.”
The course work integrates scholarship with field work application to help students advance their skills in integrative analytic thinking and to develop their understanding of communities and organizations within a complex global society. International study for short, intensive courses designed for working students is also available.
The program is designed to enable working adults to pursue it on a part-time basis. Courses meet on a weekly basis and are scheduled in the late afternoon and evening.
The information session will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 6, at the college, Westminster Street. Anyone interested in attending is asked to call 753-6552.
Applications for the program are being accepted on a rolling basis. Application materials can be requested from the college or by downloading them from the Web site at www.usm.maine.edu/lac/programs.
