BUCKFIELD – Rep. Mike Michaud paid a surprise visit to the meeting of the Oxford County Democrats Sept. 18, enjoying a potluck dinner with more than 30 Democrats from throughout Oxford County.

Michaud was accompanied by his staff member from the Lewiston office, Andrea Quaid, who had arranged for the special visit. Michaud offered remarks on the commitment his campaign has to working with state candidates in a coordinated manner in the coming election year.

Representatives from the presidential campaigns of former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean, Rep. Dennis Kucinich, Sen. John Kerry and retired Gen. Wesley Clark addressed the group and announced plans for various activities in the coming weeks, including visits by candidates or family members and meet-up gatherings. Maine Democratic Party Executive Director Aymie Walshe outlined plans for the caucus meetings to be held on Sunday, Feb. 8, and announced that the applications for absentee ballot participation will be available after Jan. 1. She said that caucus training will be provided in all parts of the state, and asked that Oxford County submit the list of individuals in each town who will serve as caucus convenors by Dec. 1. County Chairwoman Cathy Newell is heading the effort to identify convenors and would welcome volunteers from all municipalities. She may be contacted at 875-2116 or [email protected].

Plans were announced for the Governors Night in Rumford on Thursday October 16. A reception will be held in honor of Gov. John Baldacci at the home of Jenifer Kreckel at 4:30, followed by a dinner at the Eagles Hall at 6. Admission to the reception will be by ticket only.
