FARMINGTON – The Golden Rule Philathea Class of the Henderson Memorial Baptist Church will observe its 50th year anniversary during the 10:30 a.m. worship service on Sunday, Oct. 5.
During the service the Philathea, which means lovers of truth, will observe the anniversary with as many former class members present as possible. There will be a display of memorabilia of these 50 years and a cake will be served during fellowship time.
One evening in 1953, a group of young women, some still teenagers, some young marrieds, met at Henderson Memorial Baptist Church for the first meeting of the Golden Rule Philathea Class with Virginia MacDuff as adviser.
Fifty years later, after many hours of Bible study and after knitting many pairs of mittens for Christmas fairs, preparing church suppers and sponsoring children to church camp, the group is still active with one charter member, Sylvia Hodgkins, still participating.
All former members are welcome to join the low-key reunion. Members are asked to pass the word to anyone who ever attended the class.
