NORWAY – A neighbor-to-neighbor program to build environmentally aware and active communities will be launched with a fall series of monthly potlucks and presentations.

Jointly sponsored by the Maine Council of Churches’ Environmental Justice Program and the Maine Chapter of the Sierra Club, the series will begin with a potluck supper at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17, followed by an interactive program on clean air at 7:15 at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Norway, 479 Main St.

The October program will be “Turning to Earth: Ecological Conversion,” a multi-media program created by Maine author and photographer Marina Schauffler. The presentation will combine the thoughts of well-known environmentalists with Schauffler’s nature photographs and music. The potluck and program will take place on Friday, Oct. 22, at the First Congregational Church, 17 East Main St., South Paris.

The final program in the fall series, “Thinking Globally/Eating Locally,” will begin with a harvest potluck supper, featuring dishes made from locally produced ingredients. A film and local guest speakers involved in food production and marketing will provide a program on how food choices impact the environment.

Maine initiatives to promote local foods will be presented. The local harvest program is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 12, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Route 117, South Paris.
