LEWISTON – The Calvary United Methodist Church Birthday Committee met May 22 to make final plans for the 100-year re-enactment of the laying of the cornerstone at the “Church in the Triangle.”
The re-enactment will occur as part of the service at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, June 22. The original service took place June 24, 1903.
Old newspaper accounts report in great detail the events of that day in 1903. As a result, the major portion of the morning worship service will consist of repeating the original program.
In addition to a simulated dedication and placing of the cornerstone conducted by Masonic members of the church, Geoffry Gross will preach the same sermon as originally presented 100 years ago by the Rev. William J. Taylor. The hymns to be sung will be theose sung at the original service.
The public is invited to attend the service and participate in this event. Those who wish can attend dressed in the styles of 1903.
Members of the committee are Chairman David Rand, Tom and Dorothy Peak, Irving and Charlotte Grant, Dorothy Parker, Dorothy Shaw, Geneva Kirk, Janis Rand, Rick Speer, Ben Stackhouse and the Rev. Ruth Morrison.
