Open house set
JAY – The Jay Historical Society will hold its annual open house at the Holmes-Crafts Homestead on Jay Hill from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12. There will be tours of the house, a lawn sale, produce and food table, and sale of hot dogs, ice cream and Indian pudding.
Society speaker
NEW VINEYARD – New Vineyard Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, in the Historical Room. The subject will be “History of the New Vineyard Porter Lake Association,” presented by Dr. Noel K. Jones.
Dr. and Mrs. Jones have been summer residents of New Vineyard since 1972, when they bought the Dr. Edward Payson Turner mansion in the village. A graduate of Harvard, Stanford and Cornell universities, he is a retired associate professor of education at the University of North Carolina. A pie social will follow the presentation. All are welcome.
Bake sale set

Bone screenings
CARRABASSETT VALLEY – The Healthy Community Coalition will offer free bone density screenings from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 11, at the Carrabassett Town Office.
Screenings will also be offered from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 14, at the Eustis Town Office.

WELD – The farmer’s market will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, at the Weld Historical Society, Route 156.

Church supper
MEXICO – A public supper will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, at the Mexico UCC, the Green Church. The menu will include cold ham, pasta salad, potato salad, summer veggies and homemade pies. Cost is adults, $7; children under 12, $3. Takeout will be available after 5:30 p.m.
