BRIDGTON – A Poland Spring Water Co. representative will be the speaker Thursday at an Eggs and Issues breakfast.

The event will begin at 7:15 a.m. at the Magic Lantern Theater on Main Street and feature Mark Dubois, a natural resource manager with the company. Dubois will focus on the benefits of Poland Spring doing business in the Lakes Region.

“People can walk in as long as there’s room,” said Mike McClellan, executive director of the Greater Bridgton Lakes Region Chamber of Commerce. The chamber is presenting the event, which is sponsored by Bridgton Hospital, State Farm Insurance-Diane Reo, and Highland Mortgage Co.

McClellan said the event has a 40-to-50-person capacity, half of that already filled by those making reservations. The continental breakfast begins at 7:15 a.m., and Dubois will speak by 8 a.m. for approximately 30 to 45 minutes.

Elizabeth Swain, a spokeswoman for Poland Spring, said the company contributes to biological and scientific monitoring of aquifers. As part of a Good Neighbor Policy, Poland Spring also gives financial contributions to the towns where they do business.

“Our priorities are the environment, of course; education, children in need, and fire and rescue,” Swain said.

According to Poland Spring’s Web site, the company’s contributions to neighboring Fryeburg include $100,000 toward the rebuilding of the Fryeburg Academy gymnasium as well as a patrol boat for the police department to use on the Saco River.

Fryeburg has been the site of controversy over Poland Spring’s proposal to build a tanker-filling facility on Route 302. Poland Spring also purchases water from Fryeburg aquifers.
