WEST PARIS – Selectmen scheduled a special town meeting for 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 28, for voters to elect a successor to selectmen’s Chairman Bill Birney. Birney’s resignation is effective June 28,

Birney told Town Manager John White in a letter that he is resigning because he is moving to central Maine for work-related reasons.

Birney is serving his second three-year term.

Selectmen Wade Rainey and Dennis Henderson voted unanimously to accept his resignation with regret.

“We have to accept Bill’s resignation with regret. We hate to see him go,” Rainey said.

White said a replacement is necessary so the board can act on financial matters.

The meeting will be held in the town office on Kingsbury Street.
