SUMNER – A blown tire, speed and inexperience were causes of a car crash just west of the Hartford-Sumner School on Monday, Deputy Bill Nelson of the Oxford County Sheriffs Department said.

Jesse Kemp, 19, of 590 Redding Road in Sumner was the driver of a Mercury Mystique traveling east on Route 219 when the right front tire blew on a curve. The car crashed into the guardrail.

Kemp and his 16-year-old passenger, Bryce Locke, of Sumner were taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston by Buckfield Rescue. Kemp had bruises, Nelson said, and Locke was checked as a precaution.

Kemp’s car was demolished.

The accident is under investigation, Nelson said.

Deputy Justin Brown assisted, along with the Fire Department.
