OXFORD – Auto aficionados and drag racing fans will converge on Oxford Plains Speedway this Sunday for VIP’s 25th Annual Show, Shine and Drag.

A number of special performances and giveaways are planned to mark the 25th anniversary of this event, which marks the high point of summer for many. Hourly drawings will be held for Pirelli tires, U.S. Wheels, and TD Banknorth tickets. One fan will even go home with a silver 1978 25th Anniversary Corvette, donated by VIP in appreciation for the loyalty of their fans over the years.

Race fans will get a first peek at Ricky Craven’s VIP No. 25 Chevy Monte Carlo, specially made for the upcoming TD Banknorth 250. Children’s activities, including slot car racing, will be held throughout the day, and those who stay late can dance the night away with rockabilly band King Memphis.

VIP’s Show, Shine and Drag is the largest single-day car show in northern New England. Hundreds of show cars and trucks will be on display, competing in more than 30 classes. Anyone who wishes to include their vehicle in the event should arrive when the gates open at 7:30 a.m. with a $10 registration fee.

Participants will judge the event, voting for their favorite vehicle in each class, as well as best in show, best paint and best engine. All participants will receive a gift bag and T-shirt for taking part.

Amateur drag racers are also invited to compete. There is a $10 fee, and cars which will be shown cannot also be raced. There is no admission fee for non competitors, but donations will be accepted to benefit Oxford Police Department, which provides support services.
