WOODSTOCK – State transportation officials will meet with Planning Board members and other town officials at 10 a.m. Friday, May 13, to discuss concerns about a new entrance on Route 26 for the Mollyocket Motel in South Woodstock.

The need to consider a new entrance is related to a $800,000 restaurant and conference center planned for the facility.

According to owners Tim and Francis Buck, the planned facility, which would be constructed between the existing motel and Hadley’s Auto, would include a 100- to 150-seat restaurant with an Internet room with large-screen TV and a conference room. The facility would be available for dining, weddings, conferences, special meetings and other community activities.

It would also add 22 new jobs to the area. That factor means a great deal to the State Planning Office as it considers a $400,000 Community Development Block Grant to aid in construction, according to State Planning Office representative Terry Ann Stevens. The Bucks have a good chance of getting the grant, Stevens said.

If the grant is approved, the town will be facilitating the grant with written guarantees from the Bucks stating that, if anything goes wrong with the project, there will be no cost to the town in the future.

Friday’s meeting will be held in the meeting room at the town office in Bryant Pond and it is open to the public.
