100 years ago, 1918

The Auburn dog officers, Jenkins and Austin, made a sensation in New Auburn, Monday afternoon, by suddenly appearing in the midst of a number of unlicensed dogs. They shot four dogs in the street and carried away two alive. The plan brought about the desired result, owners of other unlicensed dogs coming to time in double quick order.

50 years ago, 1968

A large poster was seen today on the steps of Lewiston’s Public Library this morning during the funeral of Sen. Robert F. Kennedy. Along with several stores and other businesses in Lewiston and Auburn, the library was closed this morning during the funeral services, but most were open again in the afternoon. Services were held at 10 o’clock in St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City.

25 years ago, 1993

The Auburn City Council will meet Monday for the first reading of the coming year’s city budget and to discuss a request from the owner of Lost Valley Ski area to hold concerts at the mountain. If the City Council approves the request, Auburn could be the sight of concerts featuring country, blue-grass and soft rock artists, such as James Taylor, Michael Bolton, Tina Turner, Rod Stewart, Crosby Stills & Nash, The Beach Boys, Willie Nelson, Bonnie Raitt and others. A New York-based promotional agency has agreed to schedule concerts of “reasonable size (2,000 to 3,000) for the latter part of this summer, “on a trial basis,” if the council approves.
