PARIS – The Oxford Hills Chamber of Commerce is inviting chamber members to a Business After Hours from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 24, at Oxford Plains Fun Park on Route 26. It will include a free round of miniature golf or a cart race, as well as a putting contest and door prizes. Refreshments provided by the Fun Park. Bring a friend.

Sluggers to hold benefit supper

PARIS – The Silver Sluggers softball team, coached by Charlie Allen, will hold a pasta supper from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 24, at the legion hall on Church Street. Proceeds will benefit their trip to Texas to participate in a softball tournament. The supper will be $5 for adults and children, $3.

PARIS – A baked bean supper will be held by the Ladies Circle from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, July 25, at the First Congregational Church in South Paris. The menu will include casseroles, salads, brown bread, rolls and pies. The cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children under 12. A future supper is planned for August.

LOVELL – A bean supper will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, July 26, at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall on Route 93, off Route 5. The menu includes casseroles, salads, rolls, desserts and beverages. The cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children ages 12 and under.

Galilee House

to hold car wash

OXFORD – The Galilee House homeless shelter will sponsor a car wash from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 26, at the Pizza Hut next to Hannaford’s parking lot. The proceeds will benefit women and children in Norway and help low-income mothers in the community. All donations accepted. A rain date will be announced.

Oxford Post Office offers new hours

OXFORD – The Oxford Post Office’s new operating hours include a lunch hour from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information, people can call Leanne Payeur, public affairs, at 828-8501.

Auction of slates

PARIS – The Public Library’s slate painting auction will end at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 26, at the end of its annual book sale. Sixteen slates are being auctioned this year.

Slates, which were removed from the library roof during the construction of the Jeannette Merrill Soult Addition, feature local artists such as Lee Bean, Reggie Jack, Pat Chandler, Sharon Merrill, Heather Hastings, Ruth McAllister, Sandy Brown and Shari Smith.

The auction will also feature a hand-woven wool rug by Methyl Belanger and an original T. Higgins walking stick.

The present bid for each item is on a tote board behind the library’s circulation desk where bidding forms are also located.

Library to hold annual book sale

PARIS – The Public Library will hold its annual book sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 26, on the library’s front lawn at Main Street, Route 26, Market Square, South Paris.

Unless marked otherwise, hardcover books will be $1, trade paperbacks will be 50 cents and mass paperbacks will be 25 cents.

GREENWOOD – Inch by Inch Farm is inviting the public to visit during Open Farm Day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, July 27, at the farm on Route 219, Greenwood City. Bridge repairs

SUMNER – The Maine Department of Transportation plans to conduct bridge work for approximately six weeks on Routes 140 and 219. According to Everett Barnard of the DOT’s Bridge Maintenance Section, the work will replace the wearing surface, or top layer, of the bridge deck on the East Sumner Bridge. The bridge carries those two routes over the east branch of the Nezinscot River at their junction in East Sumner.

Alternating one-way traffic will be controlled by stop signs on either end of the bridge. The wearing surface protects the rest of the bridge deck and bridge structure from water and winter road salt.

Craft supplies

NORWAY – The Galilee House homeless shelter is looking for donations of craft supplies. The craft items will be sold to benefit the shelter throughout the year. Craft items will be made by residents of the shelter as well as by volunteers and staff. Supplies needed are: yarn in all colors, knitting needles in all sizes, grapevine wreaths, craft paint, glue, glue sticks, silk and dried flowers, wooden pieces, ribbon and lace. Anyone who has any of these items to donate or is interested in making items to sell can call 744-0936.
