DIXFIELD – Work on Severy Hill Road is about to start after a contract was awarded to C.H. Stevenson Inc. of Wayne by selectmen last week.

Town Manager Tom Richmond said Stevenson’s bid of $142,477 was the lowest of four submitted.

He said about 4,800 feet of road will be rebuilt, including the road bed and ditches. The project is expected to be completed in about a month.

In other matters, he said two selectmen and the water superintendent will travel with him to Augusta on Aug. 26 to meet with the Public Utilities Commission.

The town has been working to get permission to raise the water rates about 23 percent. The additional funding would cover the costs of new line installations.

In other business:

• The contract for the installation of new sidewalks at the town office was awarded to Livermore Concrete of Livermore for $3,300.

• Action on awarding the contract for buying a new boiler for the post office was tabled until a consultant can review the proposals.

• A decision on whether to grant a change of use on property owned by Thomas Gerrier so he can establish a campground was delayed until the board can discuss the land use procedure with the Maine Municipal Association.
