DIXFIELD – The SAD 21 board chose three of four representatives to the regional planning panel for school consolidation Monday night.
A representative from Peru will be chosen later.
Dixfield will be represented by longtime board member and former SAD 21 chairwoman Barbara Chow, current board Chairman Ben McCollister of Canton, and Linda Berry of Carthage.
Superintendent Tom Ward said municipal representatives from each of the four district towns have also been chosen. They are: Dixfield Selectmen’s Chairwoman Bettina Martin, Peru Selectman Jim Pulsifer, Carthage first Selectman Steve Brown, and Canton Selectmen’s Chairwoman Jackie Conant.
School board and selectmen representatives will soon meet to recruit and choose community representatives from each of the district’s member towns.
Ward said the superintendents from the four districts considering consolidating, SADs 21, 44, 43 and Union 37, will serve as resources for school district information.
The first meeting will take place in early November when a chairperson will be chosen as well as committee members to serve on subcommittees for transportation, office personnel and other items.
Department of Education appointee Bob Connors will serve as facilitator.
Ward said the committee will also work with the Portland law firm of Drummond and Woodsum as legal questions arise, such as whether or how votes should be weighted.
At least a partial plan for administratively merging the four districts must be submitted to the state by Dec. 1. Whether the SAD 21 board must approve that plan first is not certain, said Ward.
In other matters Monday, the resignation of Peru representative Linda Hebert was accepted.
Also, the board learned that bus driver/custodian Pam Turner has resigned, and Doug and Donna Gilbert were appointed as co-assistant athletic director for Dirigo High School.
