DIXFIELD – Projects to pave and resurface Routes 2 and 17 in East Dixfield are expected to go out to bid soon.
Mark Hume, a project manager at Maine Department of Transportation headquarters in Dixfield, said Tuesday that one project will “microsurface” Route 2 from the East Dixfield post office west to the foot of Morrison Hill.
Microsurfacing, he said, involves laying down three coats of a slurry-type of road sealant to fill the ruts and level the surface.
“We did one last year in Rumford from the top of Falls Hill on Route 2, to 5 miles out,” Hume said.
The other project is to repave Route 17 between Route 2 in East Dixfield and Route 4 in North Jay. Work on that project is expected to be completed by early summer.
At Monday night’s Dixfield selectmen’s meeting, the board approved a temporary movement permit, which Hume said would allow the contractor to move heavy gravel-processing equipment over weight-posted roads in the work area.
