Black Mountain hours

RUMFORD – Black Mountain of Maine announces new evening hours and closing date for the season. Director of Skiing Pete Phillips and Operations Manager Jeff Knight announced the mountain will operate from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

March 20 and 21 were selected as the Family Fun Weekend to wrap up this season.

Tres Dias gathering

RUMFORD – The next Lunch and Learn Seminar, is scheduled from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 17, at the River Valley Growth Council Conference Room on 34 River St. Cost of the seminar is $8 payable the day of the seminar or prior. Legion supper

RUMFORD – Want to help support local soldiers? Come to a public dinner from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, March 20, at the American Legion Hall, Congress Street. Corn beef and cabbage and desserts will be served. Cost is $6 for adults, $10 for couples, $4 for kids. There will be raffles of donated gift certificates and gifts from local businesses.

Yoga open house

RUMFORD – Spritual City Yoga will hold an open house from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 20, at 25 Urquhart St., Rumford. People may experience the benefits of taking control of body and mind. The first class is free. For more information, contact instructor Jean Popovich.

RUMFORD – The historical society will stage a benefit variety show “Right Here, On Our Stage,” at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 20, and at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 21, in the recently renovated auditorium of the Town Hall.

GOP caucus

HANOVER – Paul Ramsey, chairman of the Hanover Republican Committee, has issued an invitation to all registered local Republicans to caucus at 7 p.m. Sunday, March 21, at the home of Norm and Barbary Ferguson. The purpose of the caucus to elect delegates and alternates to the Republican State Convention. The Convention this year will be held on May 14 and 15 at the Augusta Civic Center. Other business will be to organize the Hanover Committee and nominate members to the Oxford County Committee. All Hanover Republicans and interested citizens are invited to attend.

Degree programs

MEXICO – University College at Rumford/Mexico will hold informational sessions Thursday, March 25, to introduce three degree programs now available at the center.

The sessions are scheduled as follows:

5-5:50 p.m. Professor Mike Brady will outline the University of Southern Maine Master of Science in Adult Education program;

6-6:50 p.m. Professor Stephen Murphy will present USM’s Master of Science in Counseling with a concentration in rehabilitation counseling;

7-7:50 p.m. Margaret (Peetie) Charette, program coordinator of the University of Maine at Augusta/University of Maine at Presque Isle, associate of science in medical laboratory technology, will explain the details of that program.

RUMFORD – The annual meeting for the Rumford Polar Bears Snowmobile Club will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 25, at Sam’s Restaurant on Route 2. The nomination and election of officers and board of director for the club will take place. All club members are encouraged to attend.

Bean supper

RUMFORD – As part of the March for Meals campaign to raise money for the local Meals on Wheels program, SeniorsPlus will be holding a benefit baked bean supper from 4:30 p.m. until sold out, Thursday, March 25, at the SeniorsPlus dining site on Congress Street. The menu is homemade baked beans, hot dog, steamed brown bread, cole slaw, American chop suey, and a choice of apple crisp a la mode or vanilla ice cream. The cost is $5.

There will also be entertainment by the old-time country music group, Country Side Grass. Members of the group are Lois and Gary Hall and Emery Thompson.

March for Meals is a national campaign to raise money to provide meals to homebound elderly. SeniorsPlus is the area agency on aging that provides Meals on Wheels in Oxford, Franklin and Androscoggin counties. Currently, the program has a waiting list of 73 people who qualify to receive meals but can not get them because there is not enough money to provide the service.

Lunch & Learn

BETHEL – A free Lunch & Learn will be held from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Friday, March 26, at the Nazarene Church, 16 Church St.

People will be told how Legal Services for the Elderly can help with problems related to Maine Care, Medicare, scam issues, power of attorney and wills. They will also be given information on how to pay for Home Health Services, hear about some helpful caregiver services, get answers on Alzheimer’s disease, play the “Price Is Right Game” and enjoy a free lunch.

RANGELEY – Health and Caregiver Expo will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, April 2, at Congregational Church Barn Annex. People can learn what services are available to caregivers in Rangeley and the surrounding areas. They will also receive information from a variety of agencies. Annual dinner

RUMFORD – The River Valley Chamber of Commerce Annual Dinner Meeting and Awards will be held May 1 at the Rumford Eagles Club. The chamber is now accepting nominations for the following awards: Business/Business Person of the Year, Customer Service Award, Volunteer of the Year and NonProfit Organization of the Year. People may contact the chamber for the criteria and nomination forms. All nominations need to be in the chamber office by April 1.
