FARMINGTON – Two days of holiday happenings will take place in December at Franklin Memorial Hospital to celebrate the hospital’s 75th year of caring for the community.

The festivities promise something for everyone with live music, holiday storybook readings, craft activities, horse drawn wagon rides, a kid’s gift shop, a visit from Santa and more.

The celebration will kick off in conjunction with Chester Greenwood Day on Saturday, Dec. 4, with a Children’s celebration happening from 1 to 4 p.m. at the hospital. Activities planned include a craft room for holiday ornament making, a kid’s gift shop where children can purchase gifts for friends and family (for $1 or less) and wrap them to keep the surprise; a table to design and color a holiday card for loved ones; holiday games; horse drawn wagon rides; holiday storybook readings and a visit from Santa.

Refreshments including cookies, cider and hot chocolate will be available from Mrs. Claus.

In addition, all visitors will receive a key at the entrance. If your key opens the treasure chest, you will receive a holiday gift. All activities taking place are open to the public and free, with the exception of the $1-or-less kids’ gift shop. Parents are also welcome to bring their cameras to take pictures of their child participating in any of the activities.

The annual Festival of Holiday Music featuring two groups from Mount Blue High School will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 10, in the Bass Room. The festival opens with the Mount Blue High School Jazz Band followed by a storybook reading and a slide show of “The Night Before Christmas.” Then at 7:45 p.m., the Mount Blue Voices, a 15-member group a cappella vocal ensemble, will perform. Refreshments will be available at the conclusion of the concert.

The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact the Community Relations office at 779-2555 or 1-800-398-6031, ext. 2555.
