The 1968 Beatles tune “Lady Madonna” has the two-syllable double rhyme of “suitcase” and “bootlace.” (The British English “bootlace” is our “shoelace,” but never mind.)

The first successful contact lenses were constructed and fitted by German physiologist A.E. Fick in 1888. These first lenses were made of heavy brown glass, and could be worn only for a few hours at a time. Fick’s first contact lens solution, to fill the space between the cornea and the lens, was a solution of grape sugar.
