BRIDGTON – Public Skating hours at Bridgton Academy will be held from noon to 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 14; Tuesday Dec. 16; Sunday Dec. 21; Tuesday Dec. 23; and Sunday Dec. 28. The cost for adults is $4; students, grades 1-12, $3; children under 6, $2; seniors 62 or older, $2. Rentals are $4. Departments called to Denmark blaze

DENMARK – Firefighters were called to Hio Ridge Road on Friday for a report of a structure fire. Departments from Fryeburg, Bridgton, Sebago, Hiram and Brownfield all responded to a request for mutual aid. The extent of the fire was unknown late Friday night.

Man sentenced to life in girl’s killing

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) – An 18-year-old Springfield man has been sentenced to life in prison for the 2007 drive-by shooting death of a 14-year-old girl.

Shawn Shea was found guilty Friday of first-degree murder for killing Dymond McGowan when he fired into a group of people gathered outside a house. Prosecutors said the girl was the innocent victim of a gang dispute.

Shea’s attorney William O’Neil said his client was framed by fellow gang members. The Republican of Springfield reports Shea also protested his innocence in court on Friday.

At the time she was killed, police said McGowan had been reported missing from a foster home.
