LANGDON, N.H. (AP) – The director of a food pantry serving families in the still flood-stricken Alstead area says it is short on food and funding.
Before last October’s floods, the Fall Mountain Food Shelf spent about $2,000 a month to supply 15 families in Alstead, Acworth, Langdon and other nearby towns.
Now, nearly a year after the devastating floods, pantry director Mary Lou Huffling says her organization spends about $8,000 a month providing food and household supplies to about 70 families.
The pantry has had trouble keeping up with demand. It recently received an infusion of low cost items from the New Hampshire Food Bank, but Huffling says with winter coming, more help is urgently needed.
