DURHAM – Voters at Saturday’s town meeting will see one glaring difference in the warrant this year: There will be no school articles.
The change is due to the town’s decision to join with Freeport and Pownal to form a new school system under the state’s school consolidation law.
The school budget will be developed by the new system’s nine-member Board of Directors.
The first systemwide annual school budget meeting to approve 11 school articles will take place May 27 in Freeport, followed by a budget validation referendum election by secret ballot in all three towns on June 2. The budget will not be approved on a town-by-town basis, but rather a combined majority vote.
