DURHAM – A record 1 percent of eligible voters – 49 out of 3,608 – turned out for a special election Tuesday, electing three members to the new Regional School Unit 5 Board of Directors. The RSU includes schools in Durham, Freeport and Pownal.

Cori Holt, Melinda McKechnie and Laurie Poissonnier, all unopposed, received 43, 40, and 40 votes, respectively.

There were four write-ins and one absentee ballot cast; counting was completed in 10 minutes, Town Clerk Shannon Plourde said.
