LEWISTON – The U.S. Census Bureau’s hiring process for the 2010 Census will begin Monday.

The Census Bureau plans to hire about 100 people to canvass in the Lewiston-Auburn area, and another 200 people to canvass surrounding areas. Bureau representatives will be available at the Auburn Public Library each Monday from Dec. 15 to Feb. 2 (except Jan. 19), to take names, do background checks and issue proficiency exams.

According to Bureau Recruitment Advisor Chris Boynton, applicants who pass the proficiency test will receive paid training in Augusta or Portland, then begin canvassing in February, leading up to the census in 2010.
