LEWISTON – Goldilocks they weren’t.
Two men were arrested Wednesday after pretending to be asleep in an apartment they had broken into, police said.
Dustin Strout, 20, of Pleasant View Acres and Derick Johnson, 26, of 23 Horton St. were charged with criminal trespass after they were unable to give a reasonable explanation as to why they were in the apartment at the Pleasant View Acres complex.
Police responded at 2:26 a.m. to a report from a witness who directed them to an apartment where the window air conditioner had been removed. Police heard movement inside and knocked on the door. When nobody answered, police entered the apartment and found Strout lying on a bed and Johnson stretched out on the floor. They both pretended to be asleep.
During questioning, the duo claimed they had permission to be at the apartment, but couldn’t provide the name of the lessee. When police checked with the woman renting the apartment, she said the two men didn’t have permission to sleep there.
