LISBON – Fire of undetermined origin caused heavy damage to the interior of Optimum Racing motorcycle shop in Lisbon Falls early Thursday morning, destroying most of the high-end clothing and accessories. There were no injuries.

Fire Chief P. Sean Galipeau estimated damage at $60,000 to the interior of the large concrete building owned by Sam Sylvia, and at $10,000 for the clothing and accessories at David Register’s business. Register lives in Lisbon Falls.

Four motorcycles and a 4-wheeler in the shop were not damaged, Galipeau said.

First reports of smoke in the area came in at 3:41 a.m. When Deputy Fire Chief Mike Robitaille arrived minutes later, he saw fire in the rear of the shop. The blaze was knocked down in 20 minutes and extinguished in an hour, Galipeau said.

Route 196 was closed and traffic rerouted to allow firefighters from Lisbon and Lisbon Falls fire companies to run hoses across the highway to the shop, which is next door to the Lisbon Falls Redemption Center. The area remained congested for several hours after the fire due to mop-up operations and numerous spectators.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office was called in to investigate but was unable to pinpoint the cause, Galipeau said.

Durham Fire and Rescue filled in at the Lisbon Falls Fire Station.
