POLAND – A teenage track-and-field athlete remained hospitalized but appeared to be feeling better a week after he collapsed while training with his teammates, his principal said Monday.

Duncan Bishop, a sophomore at Poland Regional High School, was awake Monday, asking to eat and seeming to feel better, Principal Bill Doughty said.

Bishop, 15, is being treated in the pediatric intensive care unit at Tufts-New England Medical Center in Boston. His collapse was related to a blood-vessel deficiency in his brain, Doughty said last week.

School officials have stayed in touch with Bishop’s parents in Boston so they can keep the close-knit school community up to date.
