Construction continues on the new Durham Community School on Route 9, the Hallowell Road, in Durham. The school is scheduled for occupancy next fall for kindergarten through eighth-grade students. The 85,000-square-foot building will have 28 classrooms and will cost about $22 million. About $20 million of that will come from the state and about $2 million from Durham taxpayers. The local amount will pay for some changes to the building that voters approved, including a different roof line, a geothermal heating and cooling system and a larger gymnasium.
