Going gluten-free

LEWISTON — The next meeting of the Living Gluten-Free Support Group will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, June 17, at the Nutrition Center of Maine, 208 Bates St. This session will be geared for folks new to a gluten-free lifestyle, however, “veterans” are welcome and encouraged to share their experience and knowledge.

It will be a potluck meeting and attendees are asked to bring a gluten- and casein-free dish to share. For more information, contact Sherie at 513-3848 or [email protected]. There will be a suggested donation of $5 to help cover the cost of building use and refreshments.

First Auburn Seniors

AUBURN The First Auburn Seniors will meet Wednesday, June 16, at the Hasty Memorial Center. President Angie Jipson will conduct the regular meeting at 11 a.m. Members are reminded to bring utensils and cups for Italian sandwiches and special desserts.

Tickets will be on sale for $5 for the chicken barbecue on Wednesday, July 21. Installation of officers and board of directors will take place. Installing officer will be Lucy Cowles. Bingo will be played following lunch.

Vice President Nancy Roy conducted the meeting on June 2. Sixty-five members were present. Attendance winners were Eugenia Dixon and Maxine Sidelinger; pot of gold, Normand Poulin, Barbara Hinkley and Pat Records. The membership welcomed new members Bernice Brooks and Norma Goddard.

Red Cross meeting

PORTLAND The Southern Maine Chapter of the American Red Cross will meet Thursday, June 24, at the Portland Elks Lodge, 1945 Congress St. Social hour will begin at 5:30 p.m. and dinner at 6:30 p.m. The business meeting will begin at 7:45 p.m. and the chapter will report on Red Cross work in Maine and Haiti.

The chapter will also ratify new board members. Red Cross members, volunteers and friends are encouraged to attend; there is no cost (cash bar). Bridge play

LEWISTON — The Lewiston-Auburn Duplicate Bridge Club met on May 8 at the Multi-Purpose Center. North/South winners in Flight A were: Jan Arey and Linda Leotsakos; second, Luke Merry and Mike Quinn; third, Lucille Bilodeau and Alberta Turner. Flight B winners were Lucille Bilodeau and Alberta Turner. East/West winners in Flight A were: Roger Labbe and Larry Fortier; second, Marta Clements and Hazel Glazier; third, David Lock and Patricia Garcia. Flight B winners were Roger Labbe and Larry Fortier. Another game will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday, May 15.

The club also met on May 9 at Schooner Estates in Auburn. Flight A winners were: first, John Hackett and Fred Letourneau; second, Mary Leahey and Lucille Theriault; third, Alberta Turner and Lucille Bilodeau; fourth, David Lock and Pat Garcia. Flight B winners were Alberta Turner and Lucille Bilodeau. Another game will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 16.
