AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — A website that helps users search for information about bills being considered by the Maine Legislature is offline after it was attacked by a hacker.

The Maine Legislature’s Information Technology Director Scott Clark says he’s planning to meet Tuesday with supervisors and others to discuss the problem.

Clark says the manipulated system could have exposed users’ computers to harm if they clicked on certain links.

The website that allows users to follow information such as rolls calls and amendments was taken offline last Thursday. The website is run by a vendor.

Clark tells the Kennebec Journal officials there are plans to tighten security.

There’s no word when the system will be brought back online.
