WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) – Shoppers screamed as they saw a man jump two stories and land in a mall’s crowded food court during lunch hour in Westchester County.
White Plains Deputy Public Safety Commissioner Daniel Jackson identified the man as 44-year-old Benny Green, of White Plains. He’s listed in stable but guarded condition at a local hospital.
Jackson says it’s believed the man jumped intentionally from the second story of the Galleria Mall shortly before 1 p.m. Monday. White Plains police say the man was conscious when emergency responders arrived.
Jackson says Green hit a metal grate-like awning on the way down which likely saved his life. He landed in a seating area of the popular food court. No one else was injured.
