LEWISTON – The Andy-Valley ASA softball umpires’ association will hold its final meeting of the 2010 season at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Lewiston Armory. Items on the agenda will be a final review of summer recreational softball play in Lewiston and Auburn., discussion of a possible fall league, election of officers and any amendments to the by-laws. Information regarding the annual banquet will be discussed. Umpires, please attend with your vote and your opinions.
Lewiston Demons hockey tryouts begin Thursday
LEWISTON – Tryouts for the Lewiston Middle School Blue Demons hockey program are scheduled for Sept. 9 from 7:20 p.m. to 8:50 p.m. and Sept. 12 from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. at Androscoggin Bank Colisee. The team is open to boys and girls in grades six through eight.
Tryout fee is $20. Thursday’s registration begins at 6 p.m. Registration forms will be available at the tryout. All participants must bring 2010/2011 USA Hockey registration forms to tryout in order to get on the ice.

Caleb Foundation to host hoop fundraiser
LEWISTON – The Caleb Foundation basketball league will be holding a fundraiser from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10 at the River Valley Village (formerly Tall Pines) basketball court.
Activities include a bake sale with pizza and soda. There will be a 3-point contest. Cost is $1, and players making 7 out of 10 shots will be entered for a chance to win a CD player. There also will be a blindfolded shooting contest. Cost is 25 cents for a free throw, 50 cents for a 3-pointer and $1 for a halfcourt shot. If you make the shot, you will receive double what you paid.
Funds will go to help get this league necessary equipment. The event is for all ages.
Final L/A Senior Hockey registration for winter season
AUBURN – The L/A Senior Adult Hockey League will be hosting final registrations for both the men’s and women’s divisions on Sunday, Sept. 12 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Pond House next to Ingersoll Ice Arena. Players must be 18 years of age for the women’s division and 25 years of age for the men’s division or 18 years of age if parent plays in the league.
Registration fee is $360 per player with a minimum payment of $100 due at time of registration. The registration is for all returning players as well as new players wanting to enter the league. All new players will have their names placed on the draft list. The player draft will be held late September.
The season is scheduled to start at the beginning of October and end mid-March. Games will be played Fridays starting at 6:45 p.m. and Sundays starting at 6:15 p.m.
