AUBURN — Auburn Middle School’s drama club will get audiences into the spirit of the season with “Nightfall with Edgar Allen Poe” on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Oct. 28-30.
Students will present five dark, chilling tales by the master of mystery and the macabre that have been adapted into plays. They are “The Raven,” “The Fall of the House of Usher,” “The Pit and the Pendulum,” “The Tell-Tale Heart” and “The System of Dr. Tarr and Prof. Fether.”
In “The Raven,” a man is haunted by three muses and the dark, mysterious bird. “The Fall of the House of Usher” is about a man driven insane by what he thinks is the death of his beloved sister. “The Pit and the Pendulum” centers around a prisoner of war trapped in her own mind. The classic “Tell-Tale Heart” is about a man driven to insanity by guilt. The lesser-known “The System of Dr. Tarr and Professor Fether” involves a rollicking visit to an old Parisian asylum.
“Nightfall with Edgar Allen Poe” is the first show of the year for the drama club, a recent Moss Hart Award winner.
The show, directed by Liz Rollins, AMS director of music and theater, will begin at 7 p.m. Doors will open 30 minutes before the show. Tickets are $5 at the door. The middle school is at 38 Falcon Drive.
