AUBURN — A local man was recovering at a hospital Friday after a Tuesday morning crash on Minot Avenue that claimed the life of a Lewiston man.

George Nickerson, 77, of Lewiston was listed in serious condition at Central Maine Medical Center. Earlier in the week, he had been listed as critical. He was being treated for a variety of injuries suffered in the early-morning wreck.

Killed in the crash was 19-year-old Robert Parker of Lewiston.

Police said early indications are that Parker’s car drifted into oncoming traffic, causing him to collide head-on with Nickerson’s Jeep.

On Friday, an independent team of accident reconstruction experts revisited the scene on behalf of an insurance company. Maine State Police conducted its own reconstruction earlier in the week.

Auburn police continued to investigate the crash.
