JAY — Colonial Daughters Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, Farmington, presented DAR Good Citizen Awards on Feb. 3 at Jay High School.

Constance Gove Hiltz, chaplain, and Joanne Brann Page, registrar, presented Marlee Irma Dubord, daughter of Mavis and Robert Dubord of Jay, with the certificate and pin authorized and signed by National Society Daughters of the American Revolution President General Merry Ann T. Wright and Maine Society DAR Regent Virginia S. Spiller.

Good Citizen Committee Chairwoman Deborah J Judkins of Upton said the Colonial Daughters Chapter sponsors the area schools to recognize excellence in high school seniors.

Dubord’s accomplishments include academics, leadership, athletics and community service. She was chosen to receive the first Jay High School Student of the Month Award where the faculty praised her for “her work ethic, stellar character, her enthusiasm, good humor, courtesy and kindness.”

Staff said she has applied herself academically to earn election to the National Honor Society in her sophomore year, which is rare. Dubord has earned high honors nearly every quarter since middle school, and she has earned science and math department awards as well.

She serves the NHS as the secretary and has never missed a meeting or an event. Dubord participates in the organization’s community service projects.

She has been a member of the soccer, cross country and tennis teams. As a result, she has earned recognition for being a Scholar Athlete as well as an All-Star. She has earned seven varsity letters. Dubord has served each team as the captain. She has also earned the soccer coach’s award and praise as well.

On her own time, Dubord has joined a national organization, Women Helping Others. She serves her peer community by serving on committees where she represents the student voice. These committees include the Leadership Committee, Maine Youth Leadership Group, yearbook and prom committees.

She is also serving a larger community on the Committee on School Sports, Co-Curricular and Culture for the RSU 36/Jay School District Regional Planning Committee. This committee has been charged with “identifying, addressing and offering recommendations related to the multiple facets of school culture and how two similar school systems can consolidate while assuring that opportunities and school identity evolve and flourish for both the students and the communities.”

Dubord wants to be involved in a nursing career and she has been involved as a volunteer in the Sandy River Nursing Home. She plans to attend a four-year college.

Colonial Daughters officers will attend assemblies at each of the seven schools to present the certificates and pins to the Good Citizens.
