DEAR SUN SPOTS: I hope somebody can help; Years back, long before my children were born in the early 1950s, my then wife used to sing me a song. Some of the words are:

“I’d taste your strawberries,

I’ll drink your sweet wine.”

Could it be Les Paul and Mary? My wife is no longer here. I hope somebody knows the song. Thanks. — R.B.S., Auburn

ANSWER: Sun Spots actually remembers the song of which you write. She sang it as a girl, perhaps because it was recorded by John Denver, a favorite of hers. You are talking about the song “Today,” words and music by Randy Sparks. Here are the lyrics from www.lyricsdepot.com:

Today, while the blossoms still cling to the vine

I’ll taste your strawberries, I’ll drink your sweet wine

A million tomorrows shall all pass away

Ere I forget all the joy that is mine, Today

I’ll be a dandy, and I’ll be a rover

You’ll know who I am by the songs that I sing

I’ll feast at your table, I’ll sleep in your clover

Who cares what the morrow shall bring

Today, while the blossoms still cling to the vine

I’ll taste your strawberries, I’ll drink your sweet wine

A million tomorrows shall all pass away

Ere I forget all the joy that is mine, Today

I can’t be contented with yesterdays glory

I can’t live on promises winter to spring

Today is my moment, now is my story

I’ll laugh and I’ll cry and I’ll sing

Today, while the blossoms still cling to the vine

I’ll taste your strawberries, I’ll drink your sweet wine

A million tomorrows shall all pass away

Ere I forget all the joy that is mine, Today

Today, while the blossoms still cling to the vine

I’ll taste your strawberries, I’ll drink your sweet wine

A million tomorrows shall all pass away

Ere I forget all the joy that is mine, Today
