Gerard A. Granger
SABATTUS – Gerard A. Granger of Sabattus, died unexpectedly March 30, 2021. The son of Joseph Granger and Irene (Marcoux) Granger was born in Lewiston, Feb. 12, 1942. He graduated from St. Peter’s Grammar School and St. Dominic’s High School. In 1961 Gerard married Gemma Fournier and they had three children: Stephen, Jennifer and Jaime.
After high school Gerard worked for Cote’s Dairy. He went on to work as a photo finisher for MarVac Photo. Gerard then worked for Jones and Vining as a Production Control Manager. In 1983, he and son, Stephen, started Fine Finishes, a high-end antique furniture refinishing business. The business served customers throughout Maine and New England, as well as New York and California.
Known to family and friends as Butch, Gerard was later better known by customers and business associates as Gerry. He served in the National Guard from July 1961 to October 1968, and was activated during the Berlin Crisis in 1962.
Gerry was always willing to help family and friends in need. He also gave generously to
numerous (local and national) charities. A kind and quiet man of few words, he always meant what he said and his word was his bond. He enjoyed spending time with family, and numerous family pets – especially his cat Daisy who lived 22 years.
He is survived by his former spouse and partner, Gemma Granger of Sabattus, son, Stephen and wife Laurie; daughter, Jennifer Granger; daughter, Jaime and husband Chris Clark; granddaughter, Kala Granger; grandson, Shane Granger and wife Rachel; granddaughter, Aeleah Granger; grandson, Jonathan Darling; grandson, Matthew Darling; grandson, T.J. Slaton; granddaughter Emily Slaton; grandsons, Ethan and Eli Clark; great-granddaughter, Emma Granger; great-granddaughter, Jenna Darling; and great- grandsons, Justin and Jaxon Darling; great-grandson, Raiden Darling.
A Celebration of Life for Gerry was held on Sunday, April 11.
