Abrams has been widely celebrated in the years since her first run for Georgia governor in 2018 which she, of course, lost. Like former President Donald Trump, though, she managed to spin away her defeat to the satisfaction of her supporters as a result of nefarious forces beyond her control.

Froma Harrop: Washington puts its chips on chips
Computer chips are the little brains that run appliances, airplanes, mobile phones and cars. You can’t have a modern economy without them.
Raychel Ward: Lewiston homeless shelter buffer zone is questionable
During the Lewiston City Council’s Sept. 20 meeting, Councilor Scott Harriman asked why we needed a buffer zone. The question was swept under the rug, and the motion continued. Despite the fact city councilors disagreed with the buffer zones, they compromised and approved a 250-foot buffer zone between schools, day cares and homeless shelters. The […]
Steve Verrill: DA candidate McLean fights for victims, justice
I recently met and spoke with Neil McLean. I believe he’s best qualified to be the next district attorney for Androscoggin, Franklin and Oxford counties. Why Mayor Jason Levesque refuses to capitalize on the proximity to Portland rather than dragging Auburn’s image down with labels like “blue collar utopia” defies economic sense. Auburn is […]

One of my primary concerns in the coming election is how to affect a change in the cost of electricity in Maine. As retired consumers living in a rural area, my husband and I have been negatively affected by a very large increase in our electric bill. The introduction of solar farms has been somewhat […]
Leonard Pitts Jr.: This is not about immigration
It’s about cruelty as political stratagem. After all, if you solve a problem, you can no longer exploit it. But leave it unsolved and you can use it to rub raw the emotions of your target audience — e.g., white people terrified at the browning of America — and stampede them to the polls.
