Cal Thomas: Condemn or redeem Will Smith?
The redemption of Will Smith should be the goal, not his condemnation. It is a message that ought to be considered not only by those in Hollywood, but by Washington politicians and the rest of us.
Leonard Pitts Jr.: Americans have lost the willingness, ability to share a common national identity
America is a nation in stasis, getting nowhere because it is simultaneously being pulled in opposite directions toward fundamentally different visions. The need to fix this — better education in civics, history, critical thinking and media literacy along with improved policing of social media — could hardly be more urgent.
Robert Reed: Untaxed property development not sustainable
Four years ago, I warned Lewiston residents that the development of untaxed property — in many cases using land and/or property that was previously taxable — was not sustainable, as it was growing at four times the rate of taxable property. Teaching our true history is not about making children feel bad about being white. It is to teach them what white people have done well and what we have done poorly. They should know that much of our early prosperity was based on the forced labor of enslaved people.
Mark Chasse: Support for Rep. Libby, fiscal responsibility
Rep. Laurel Libby spoke March 29 to the House concerning LD 1978, a bill to support college loan forgiveness for home ownership. Rep. Libby spoke of sacrifices her family made as she and her husband pursued educational goals that ultimately served to better their family. Those goals were achieved through fiscal responsibility (a.k.a. frugality), not […]
Rich Lowry: What did Joe Biden know, and when did he know it?
Despite the mainstream press finally taking up the sleazy business dealings discussed in emails found on Hunter Biden’s laptop, the media’s lack of interest in the president’s knowledge or involvement in this lucrative part of the family business is palpable.
