James McHugh: Senate candidate Bryant supports hunting, fishing
As a fisherman and hunter here in Oxford County, I am supporting Bruce Bryant for Senate District 19. Bruce is a lifelong hunter and fisherman. As chair of the Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Committee he worked to protect our hunting and fishing rights, creating a plan to improve our fish hatcheries with the bond monies […]
John Cleveland: Voters should send Sheats, Campbell and Damien to Augusta
The time has come for the voters to decide who they want to represent them in the State House. Bettyann Sheats, Dan Campbell and Stefanie Mahr Damien have been knocking on doors for months in their legislative districts, meeting with voters at their homes and listening to their concerns and priorities for their families and […]
Audie Conrad: Letter decrying ammo giveaway ‘poignant and spot-on’
In response to Holly Cooney’s letter (“Ammo giveaway shouldn’t still be on website,” Oct. 23), I commend her eloquently worded remarks concerning content on candidate Laurel Libby’s website. It is poignant and spot-on. As a 60-plus-year resident of the Lewiston/Auburn community, and one whose nephew was murdered in last year’s mass shooting, I too, am […]
Kathy Lawrence: Damien would bring people together in Augusta
I hope people vote for Stefanie Mahr Damien as state representative for Auburn’s House District 88. I know her as a successful local small business owner and community supporter. She has contributed her skills as a seamstress to the local Prom Gown Giveaway and recruited other seamstresses to help. Stefanie has shown me that she […]
Martha Poliquin: Harris ‘more than qualified’ to be next president
I’m voting for Kamala Harris, and here’s why. We have another opportunity to elect a woman for president. Harris is smart, strong, experienced, honest, caring, compassionate, hard-working. I’m a 68-year-old white woman. I know that everything she represents would benefit women, and therefore families. There is nothing about Kamala and her proposed policies that concerns […]
Paul and Sharron Raczynski: Golden was right to shift stance on gun reform
Jared Golden, a former U.S. Marine, is the right choice for U.S. representative. After a tragic mass shooting in our Lewiston/Auburn community claimed 18 lives and left 13 others wounded, Golden has rightly shifted his stance on gun reform. As someone with firsthand knowledge of assault weapons, he now supports common-sense measures to protect the […]
Fred Brodeur: America needs a good model — not Trump
I am opposing President Trump because he cannot be trusted — telling lies and being deceptive almost every time he speaks. One cannot believe anything he says. He does not have a plan to protect us from man-made climate change, which will cause worse hurricanes, wildfires, floods, droughts and sea level rise to our planet. […]
Gov. Janet Mills: Harris has solid character, cares about people
I was attorney general when I first got to know Kamala Harris more than a dozen years ago. Together, we took on Big Pharma for peddling opioids, went after big banks that caused the housing collapse, and cracked down on scammers who stole from seniors. Now she is fighting to protect Medicare, and expand it […]
Diane Grandmaison: Vote for Harris, Golden
I hope people join me in supporting Kamala Harris for president and Jared Golden for Congress. One can be sure they would protect Social Security, Medicare and veteran benefits. They would protect women’s reproductive rights. They have been working to improve workers’ rights and fair wages. After the Oct. 25 shootings in Lewiston, Golden really […]
